Understanding Chiropractic Care and How It Can Benefit You
What Is Chiropractic? "Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts which is concerned with human health and disease processes. Doctors of Chiropractic are physicians who consider man as an integrated being and give special attention to the physiological and biochemical aspects including structural, spinal, musculoskeletal, neurological, vascular, nutritional, emotional and environmental relationships. The practice and procedures which may be employed by Doctors of Chiropractic are based on the academic and clinical training received in and through accredited chiropractic colleges and include, but are not limited to, the use of current diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Such procedures specifically include the adjustment and manipulation of the articulations and adjacent tissues of the human body, particularly of the spinal column. Included is the treatment of intersegmental aberrations for alleviation of related functional disorders. Chiropractic is a drug-free, non-surgical science and, as such, does not include pharmaceuticals or incisive surgery. Due regard shall be given to the fact that state laws, as well as the nation's antitrust laws, may allow Doctors of Chiropractic to utilize ancillary health care procedures commonly referred to as being in the common domain." -American Chiropractic Association 2005 What Conditions Can Chiropractic Help? Chiropractic can help a wide variety of health problems. Did you know that chiropractic not only helps to relieve neck/back pain, but also can help with organ function as well. The spinal nerves pass through openings in your spine, to communicate with these organs. Your nervous system begins at the brain and continues through your spinal canal, eventually leading to all the muscles and organs of your body. If you have interference along one of those nerves then your muscles or organs may not be getting the information needed to work properly. People have a hard time understanding how chiropractors, because of this relationship of the nervous system, can help with such things as: ear/sinus infections, allergies, bed wetting, bowl irritations, heart burn, blood pressure and heart arrhythmia. See the Nerve Innervation Chart for a better visual. How Often Do You Have To Get Adjusted? Chiropractors work with the internal healing ability of each individual. Every individual is different and each body reacts in different ways. The treatment plan is based on the individual’s history, chiropractic examinations, and how well the body might be able to respond to care. You might ask the question, “Do you have to keep going to the chiropractor once you start?” The answer is YES! We want you to keep coming to see us.
